  1. I was not sure what type of kinky hair to pick. Was not there what was the difference between the types: 4a, 4a/b, 4b, etc ….

    1. Dear Kenia,
Thank you very much for downloading Hair Journal App. Hope you are finding it helpful in your hair journey:-).
Regarding your question, type 4 hair is sometimes defined under the umbrella term as ‘kinky’ hair which is why we left it to the Hair Journal App user to decide for themselves which type 4 subsection they consider their hair type to be. Blackgirllonghair.com provides a nice summary which you can check out – http://blackgirllonghair.com/2012/03/natural-hair-type-guide-which-type-are-you/ . Hope this is helpful.

I have an Android phone and I am unable to locate this app. I’ve gone through the Amazon store and Google Play. I purchased this over a year ago and have not been able to use this on my new phone for over four months now. Help???

    1. Hello Ruth 🙂 to help us investigate and resolve this issue, can you please tell us: In what country are you trying to download the app? When you downloaded the app the first time, what country were you in? What is the make of your new phone?

      Thanks,

      Hair Journal Team

  4. Is there any way to change my measurements to inches after choosing centimeters? It keeps telling me I cant.

    1. Hello Keisha, thank you for downloading the Hair Journal app. The app does not currently allow you to change the unit of measurement once its set. However, we will consider implementing this feature in future updates. Have a great New Year!

I would like to purchase your app but I’m having trouble with these issues in the free app. Can you please let me know if these are things that can be fixed or added before I purchase the paid version.

-Hair Type choices – coily (between curly and kinky) or custom hair type option

-Keyboard won’t go away on some screens after you finish typing – can you add a done button to all of the keyboards. the dismiss keyboard button goes away when you start typing but it does not come back when your finished (diary entries and in notes)

-Hair Lengths – my hair is waist length already but there are no goal choices for
Below bra strap, Hip, tailbone, classic, ect.

-Profile does not give option to show current length so you know where your starting at.

-Hair Style – can you add braids and weaves those are staple styles. When I try to enter a custom style the keyboard won’t show all the way for me to type.

Share- the share button won’t go away after you press it but decide you don’t want to share anything. I tried to tap it again for it to go away but it didn’t, I tried to change screen but it did not go away.

    1. Hello.

Thanks for the download. We’re happy to answer your queries. Answers in-line:

Q:[Hair Type choices – coily (between curly and kinky) or custom hair type option]
A: We are going to add the ability to define custom hair types for this section.

Q:[Keyboard won’t go away on some screens after you finish typing – can you add a done button to all of the keyboards. the dismiss keyboard button goes away when you start typing but it does not come back when your finished (diary entries and in notes)]
A: We’ve tried to recreate this issue with the keyboards but it all works fine for us (i.e. Every time the keyboard appears there is an option available to dismiss it). Would you be able to tell us what iOS device and OS version you are using ?

Q:[Hair Lengths – my hair is waist length already but there are no goal choices for
Below bra strap, Hip, tailbone, classic, ect.]
A: We are going to add these options as well as the ability to define a custom hair length type in a future update.

Q:[Profile does not give option to show current length so you know where your starting at]
A: This is good feedback and we’ll look to include it in a future update.

Q:[Hair Style – can you add braids and weaves those are staple styles. When I try to enter a custom style the keyboard won’t show all the way for me to type.]
A: This section should allow you to define the custom type. This seems like a bug for your device. Again could you tell us what iOS device and OS version you are using ?

Q: [Share- the share button won’t go away after you press it but decide you don’t want to share anything. I tried to tap it again for it to go away but it didn’t, I tried to change screen but it did not go away.]
A: When the share options appear they should go away if you click anywhere else on the screen. This could be a bug for your device or OS version.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. We already have plans to implement most of your suggestions. As for the potential bugs we’ll investigate on our side to try and reproduce and fix them. It would be very helpful if you could tell us what device you are using and the iOS version that’s running on it.

We hope that does not deter you from upgrading to the ‘pro’ version of the app via an in-app purchase.

      Thanks

I think it would be helpful if users could add the products from the product list to the calendar. So under the “Diary” section, it would be nice to add a products section to the Diary Entries, Hair Stats, Photos, and Reminders sections that are already there. The products section would take you to your product list where you could just select your products, so that you wouldn’t have to re-type all the product names. That way, you could quickly and easily add the products you used each day. I think it would make it easier to isolate what’s working and what’s not and what needs to be adjusted, especially for beginners. The product list is a good idea, but right now it just kind of sits there and can’t really be used for much else. Integrating it into the calendar would make it much more functional and useful.

    1. Hi Samantha, thank you for downloading the Hair Journal app. We really appreciate your feedback and will aim to incorporate it in future app updates! 😃

Linking that to the calendar would be nice. Having those two linked would also be a great reminder of what and when an item is low or “out of stock”. Having a picture will also let the user repurchase the same item.

    1. Hello Ruth,

We value your feedback and we will aim to add that feature in future app updates.

      Have a good day 😃

Does anyone has advice about transition hair and im scared to cut my own hair ( processed hair on the end). Im tired of getting perms and my hair is not growing. My hair is getting way thicker than i expected but not longer. Can some please help

    1. Dear Charlotte,
Thank you for downloading Hair Journal App. Sorry to learn that you are struggling with the transitioning process. How long have you been transitioning? Dealing with two textures can be very difficult and does take quite a bit of patience. Please note that not everyone can do a big chop after a short time transitioning. There is always the option of doing a longterm transition to natural. This does take patience and personally I find having my hair in braids helps with the process. There are numerous videos on youtube regarding transitioning. Videos on ‘relaxer stretches’ also help as they can give you an idea regarding how to deal with the two textures.
Please know that there are many options regarding how to transition to natural. It is quite an exciting journey but remember to do what you are ultimately happy with – IT IS YOUR HAIR JOURNEY!

      Best wishes,

      Hair Journal Team.

I’ve used the hair journal all for almost two years, I love it. The issue is I recently went from an iPhone 5s to a 6s not knowing that I needed to backup my journal. I have hundreds of diary and product entries along with pictures and length checks. Is there anyway at all that someone can help me retrieve all of this information to my newly downloaded pro version of your hair journal? I am in desperate need. Please help.

  9. I upgraded to the Pro version. I had to reset my phone due to a glitch in the software. I have to redownload all of the apps individually (I can’t back it up from iTunes because I will reinstall the glitch into my phone). How do I access the backed up information? The app is telling me I have no profiles

    1. Hi Thommy413,

We apologise that you are having this issue with the app.

The app data is stored locally on your device and is not automatically backed up. However there is a manual backup function in the app, accessed by clicking the backup icon in the top right of the ‘Select Profile’ screen, which backs up all of your data to the cloud (i,e. DropBox)

If you did not explicitly back up the data using this functionality, unfortunately if you reset your phone and re-installed the app your old data would be lost :(.

Would it be possible for you to restore the original data and perform the backup using the app then reset your phone again, re-download the app and restore from the app data backup ?

I hope this is clear.. Please let me know if this helps you out..

      Thanks
